22nd-Ranked Tigers Edge #16 Texas Lutheran, Tied For First in SCAC

Freshman Jack Hilliard scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute as the No. 22 ranked Colorado College men's soccer team came up huge in a 2-1 win over No. 16 Texas Lutheran Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

The Tigers started things off quick when Oliver Martinez got the first good look of the game for CC as his shot rang off the top of the crossbar early in the first half.

Less than two minutes later the Tigers found the back of the net off a goal from Connor Webster. Charlie Wagner began the play bringing the ball down the middle, crossing to Webster's right, pulling TLU's netminder out the box. Webster was able to easily shoot to the left of the net behind the goalie.

Texas Lutheran evened things up in the 21st minute when Preston Huff got the ball on his foot off a corner kick. His first shot was blocked but he was able to easily corral the rebound to put it past goaltender Jasper Broad.

The Tigers went into the half with seven corner kicks, compared to one for TLU. CC tallied seven total shots to TLU's four.

Hilliard's go-ahead goal came when Wagner moved down the right side, shooting across to his teammate on the far left, who put in in the net. The goal is Hilliard's second of the season and Wagner now has three assists.

"As we continue to win, we'll gain confidence," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We still have a long way to go but I was very happy with how we looked this weekend. Our freshmen have been terrific and have integrated really well for us. I look forward to what they'll bring to our team in the next few years."

The Tigers are 9-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the SCAC, tied for first place with 19th-ranked Trinity. The teams will battle at Stewart Field on Friday, Oct. 20, beginning at 4 p.m.
