#19 Tigers Outlast #22 Trinity, Take Over First Place in SCAC

The No. 19 Colorado College men's soccer team survived a close game and defeated No. 22 Trinity, 3-2, in a battle for first place in the SCAC Friday night at Stewart Field.

CC scored twice in the opening half and then again midway through the second for a 3-0 advantage before TU rallied and scored two late in the contest.

Alex Meyerhoff put the home team on the board in the 19th minute with a high kick from 25 yards out that sailed over goaltender Austin Wilman's head.

Then an own goal by Trinity gave CC a two-goal lead in the 40th minute of play. After the first 45 minutes, the visitors led in corners, 5-1, but Colorado College was
ahead in shots, 5-3.

In the 68th minute, Wyatt Linggi gave CC a three-goal lead when he took a pass from Kenzo Schiffer and beat backup goalie Joshua Lynch ilman from the left side.

Trinity finally got one back in the 74th minute when Adam Knutson took a shot that Jasper Broad saved but Knutson was able to gather the rebound and put it back in.

The second goal for TU came in the 85th minute when Joseph Kuri drew Broad out to the left of the box and Braden Shuey was there to put it past the netminder.
Broad finished with five saves.

"The final stretch of the game was far more exciting than I would have liked, but credit to the guys for hanging on for a critical win," head coach Scott Palguta said. "I thought we were outstanding in the first half and scored a smart and opportunistic third goal in the second half. We didn't close the game out well, but I sometimes forget how much youth is often on the field. Today was a great learning experience for the team."

Colorado College (10-2-1, 5-0 SCAC) took sole possession of first place in the conference and hosts Schreiner University in the home finale at noon.
