Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Athletic Communications

Tigers Blank Schreiner to Secure First SCAC Title Since 2019

Alexander Ward scored the game's only goal in the 34th minute to give the Colorado College men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Schreiner University on Sunday and secure at least a share of the 2023 SCAC title and the No. 1 seed at the conference tournament in two weeks.

The Tigers, who last won the SCAC regular-season title in 2019, improved to 11-2-1 and 6-0 in league play with their eighth consecutive victory.

Ward took a pass from Teddy Libby, moved to the middle of the field and fired a rocket from 20 yards past Schreiner keeper Matthew Shaw. Colorado College dominated the game, outshooting the Mountaineers, 28-3, in total shots, and 11-2 in shots on target. Shaw finished the game with 10 saves.

Ward and Oliver Ramirez led all players with four shots apiece, and goalkeeper Jasper Broad saved shots on goal for Schreiner in posting his fifth shutout of the season.

"It feels fantastic to gain a share of the conference title and secure the top seed at the SCAC Tournament," head coach Scott Palguta. "The guys are going to enjoy that and take a day off, then get right back to work as all we are thinking about is our next match. There are no easy games."

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Oct. 27, against Austin College in Sherman, Texas, beginning at 7 pm (MT). One win or a tie next weekend vs. Austin or the University of Dallas will secure the outright SCAC regular-season title.
