Tomlinson Posts Double-Double But Tigers Fall to #2 NYU

Zoe Tomlinson posted her third double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Colorado College women's basketball team dropped an 80-54 decision Sunday to No. 2-ranked NYU in New York City.

Tomlinson collected team and season-highs of 17 points and 16 rebounds, and added three steals and three blocks  as the Tigers fell to 2-1 this season. NYU was led by Megan Morrison and Natalie Bruns with 17 points apiece and the Violets stayed undefeated at 4-0.

NYU scored the first nine points of the contest and never looked back. The Tigers closed the gap to 13-11 thanks to a 3-pointer from Isa Nelson and a layup by Zoe Tomlinson, but the Violets rattled off the next five points, then scored the last nine of the period for a 27-14 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The home team was very balanced on the scoresheet in the first half, as Morrison had nine, followed by Bruns, Erica Miller and Belle Pellecchia each with eight and NYU held a 42-25 halftime advantage.

The Violets ran away from CC in the second half, using an 11-0 run to take a 61-30 lead with 4:45 remaining in the third period. A pair of free throws later in the period by Kayla DuBois gave the Violets their biggest lead of the game at 66-32.

The Tigers opened the fourth quarter with a 14-4 run, including seven points by Tomlinson, to cut the deficit to 74-50, but never got any closer.

Nelson and Healy Bledsoe each had seven points for CC, while Nelson grabbed five rebounds.

NYU shot 41 percent (30-73) from the field and was 6-of-23 from three-point range. The Tigers, meanwhile, were 21-of-61 from the field (34 percent) and made just one of their 11 attempts from long range.

"Tonight we faced a very talented NYU squad. It was a great opportunity for our team and will no doubt prove to be a valuable experience as we continue to seek a SCAC conference title," head coach Katherine Auguste said. "This was a great homecoming game for Zoë and she performed at a high level in her return to NYC. While the result was far from ideal, we will take the positives from this contest and apply them against our next challenge - facing No. 4 Tufts this Tuesday."

Colorado College returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21, against 9th-ranked Tufts in Medford, Mass., beginning at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
