Last Time Out
The Tigers dropped a pair of games to 16th-ranked Western Michigan two weeks ago at Robson Arena ... On Friday, Luke Grainger had a hand in all three goals and Cameron Rowe made 25 saves to lift the Broncos to a 3-1 victory. Grainger opened the scoring at the 16:32 mark of the first period. Following a scrum with seemingly all 10 skaters in the CC crease, the puck slid out to the slot where Grainger put a shot top shelf over Tiger goalie Kaidan Mbereko. Ryan Beck evened the score at 6:22 of the second period with his second goal of the season. Logan Will sent a shot towards the net from the far boards and a streaking Beck knocked it out of the air past Rowe from right in front of the net. Alex Bump, who assisted on Grainger's goal, broke the deadlock with 3:35 remaining in the final frame with the game winner. Grainger found Dylan Wendt, who took a shot from the top of the left circle that Mbereko saved, but Bump put home the rebound from the slot. Wendt sealed the game with an empty-net goal at the 18:09 mark, assisted by Grainger and Chad Hillebrand ... On Saturday, Grainger had a goal and three assists and Rowe stopped all 23 shots as WMU claimed a 4-0 victory. Each team had a pair of power-play opportunities in a scoreless first period, with a 5-on-3 chance for the Tigers for 1:18 midway through the frame. CC attempted eight shots during the two power plays but couldn't get anything past Rowe. The Broncos took the lead with a pair of power-play goals in the second period. Zac Galambos scored off a wrister from the bottom of the left circle at the 1:52 mark and Dylan Wendt notched his second goal of the weekend from the slot at 11:47 of the middle frame. The Tigers had four more power plays in the second period, including another 5-on-3 opportunity, this time for 1:43, when Grainger was called for a 5-minute major for checking from behind just 17 seconds after Bump was whistled for interference. However, CC mustered just one shot on Rowe during the four opportunities, then put just one on target during two more man-advantage situations in the third period. Wendt scored an empty-net goal with 3:29 remaining in the game, then Grainger scored with 1:33 left.
