Colorado College defeated the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs, 67-64, on Friday night in Seguin.
With the win, the Tigers clinched their first SCAC Championship Tournament appearance since 2018. They are 11-11 overall and 8-5 in SCAC play and extend their winning streak to three. The overall and conference records are the best since the 2015-2016 season.
"I'm so proud of this team. Tonight was a gutsy win, we showed a lot of resiliency and we are learning how to win on the road," coach Jeff Connaroe said. "Despite missing Trey and Alex due to illness, we found a way to win. Our defense is becoming an identity and the guys really believe in it."
Dinari Boykin led the Tigers with 22 points and eight rebounds.
Scott Ruegg and Devin Phillio also put up solid performances with nine and ten points respectively.
CC shot 41.7% from the field but just 20% from behind the arc on Friday night. The Bulldogs shot just 30.5% from the field and 26.1% from three-point range.
TLU was led by Keiman Capers who scored 12 points and nabbed two rebounds.
The Tigers held the lead for the vast majority of the game and earned 14 second-chance points and 16 off of fast-break opportunities.
"It was fitting [Philio] blocked a shot to seal the game tonight," Conarroe said. "This is a really fun team to coach, our staff is working their tails off and the kids are playing their hearts out for each other and all Tigers. Lots of growth ahead but I'm really proud of our team tonight!"
