Colorado College Upsets #1 Trinity University

Colorado College upset No. 1 Trinity University, 70-64, in Reid Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The win marks the first time in program history that the Tigers have played, and beaten a No. 1 ranked team.

The Tigers battled from start to finish, and ending the first period with an 18-16 lead.  Rosie Braley's defensive effort in the paint earned her four points and five rebounds in the first ten minutes.

"Rosie had a huge day on the glass along with clutch scores in the paint," coach Katherine Menendez said. "Today was a huge day for our program and certainly momentum-generating at a key point in the season."

Trinity battled back to end the first half with a four point lead after a 10 point run with just over six minutes remaining in the second half.

Audrey Bayston led the charge for CC in the second half, with 15 points and five rebounds to finish the afternoon with 23 points and seven rebounds.

"Audrey showed great poise down the stretch with her free throws and attacked incredibly well from behind the arc with both 3's and drives," Menendez said "Anna [Fanelli], Andie [Will], Laura [Strenk] provided composure and vision from the guard position and shared point guard responsibilities with ease."

Fanelli, Will, and Strenk combined for 17 points, nine assists and 13 rebounds.

CC shot 42.3% from the field and 40.9% from behind the arc. The Tigers held Trinity to 1-13 from behind the arc and to 37.5% percent from the field, 5.5% below their season average.

"This was an incredible win for our group – we all believed that it could happen and our team worked incredibly hard in the weeks leading up to today," Menendez said. "I'm so proud of how each individual contributed in their own way today. From the bench to those on the court, everyone contributed to today's success."
