Tigers Topple Division II CSU-Pueblo

Colorado College defeated Division II opponent CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves, 12-6, on Wednesday night in Pueblo, Colorado.

"We don't get many opportunities to play games against in-state competition," coach Mike Horowitz said. "So, it's always nice to come away with a win against a Colorado opponent."

The Tigers got off to a strong start with an unassisted goal by Thomas Power after 53 seconds of play in the first quarter. CC scored five more goals in the first half before the Thunderwolves found their way onto the scoreboard with five seconds remaining in the half.

The second half of play started in the same way this first half did with six more unanswered goals by the Tigers.

CSU-Pueblo rallied in the final 15 minutes of play and scored five goals to cut the deficit to 12-6 before the play clock expired.

Ben Anastos made two saves for the Tigers in the first half of play, while Eli Turovsky made three saves in the second half.

"Our defense played with great edge tonight," Horowitz said. "Physical play while taking the right amount of risk to speed up our opponent."

CC out shot the Thunderwolves 41-24 and won the ground ball battle 32-30. Both teams were 1-1 on man-up opportunities. The Tigers out cleared CSU-Pueblo 14-8.
