Kate Brush from the women's swimming team and
Dylan Wells from the men's lacrosse team were named recipients of the annual Laura Golden and Van Diest awards, respectively, as Colorado College's top female and male student-athletes among the 2023 graduating class.

The awards were presented on Tuesday, May 16, during the school's honors convocation.

Brush earned three All-America honors at CC, including two this season at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships. She claimed a first-team All-America nod with an eighth-place finish in the 100 butterfly and a second-team selection with a ninth-place finish in the 200 butterfly. Brush is first female swimmer in school history to be an All-American in multiple events in the same year and the second to earn the honor in multiple years.

The senior from Greenwich, Ct., captured six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference individual titles, including three this season in the 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly. She set the SCAC open record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:02.13 and currently holds five school records.

Brush has a 3.78 grade-point average with a double major in art and economics. She is a two-time CSCAA Scholar All-American and a member of the SCAC Honor Roll all four years at Colorado College.
Wells, meanwhile, led the Tigers to the NCAA Division III Championships each of the last three years, including a trip to the Elite Eight in 2021. A two-time team captain, he was an All-SCAC and All-Region selection as a sophomore and a first-team all-HCLC selection this season.

The senior from Greenwood Village, Colo., finished fourth on the team with 30 points (16g,14a) this season and capped his career with 63 points (41g,22a).

Wells has a 3.84 grade-point average majoring in economics and was a two-time member of the SCAC Honor Roll.Â

The Laura Golden Award originated in 1981 in honor of the late women's basketball coach and 1995 CC Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, and has been awarded every year thereafter except for 1982 and 1995. The Van Diest Award, named after former Colorado College trustee and local civic leader Edmond C. Van Diest, has been presented annually since 1936.
