Shalom Prince and
Alex Sandoval scored for Colorado College as the Tigers and the University of Denver battled to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Â
All four goals were scored in the first half, starting just 30 seconds into the contest when DU's Camryn MacMillan took a crossing pass from Riley Baker and flicked a shot between the legs of CC keeper
Regan Wallace.
Â
The Tigers responded in the 16
th minute when Prince received a pass from
Haley Harnisch and fired a rocket from 25 yards over the outstretched arms of Denver goalie Molly Wissman.
Â
Kaitlyn Glover gave the Pioneers the lead back as she took a through pass from MacMillan, dribbled past Wallace in the box and hit the open net in the 25
th minute.
Â
Sandoval evened the score with her first career goal, a beautiful volley shot off a pass from freshman
Tyler Rose in the 34
th minute.
Â
Wallace was spectacular in the second half, including a great save off the foot of Lily O'Grady in the 76
th minute, then stopping O'Grady again and Glover from point blank with six minutes remaining.
Â
"What a performance from our freshman goalkeeper," head coach
Keri Sanchez said. "The whole team seemed a little nervous early and Regan let in a goal she would like to have back, but she really saved us in the second half."
Â
Wallace, playing in just her second collegiate match, finished with a career-high seven saves as Denver outshot CC, 23-7, in total shots and 9-4 on target.
Â
Missman had two saves for Denver, now 0-0-2 this season, while the Tigers are 0-1-1.
Â
Colorado College returns to action on Thursday, August 24, against the University of Colorado in Boulder, beginning at 7 p.m.
