Tigers Fall to Kansas

Hallie Klanke scored a goal and added a pair of assists to lead the Kansas University women's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Colorado College Sunday afternoon in Lawrence, Kan.

The Jayhawks struck three times in the first 20 minutes of the match and never looked back. A CC own goal gave Kansas a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute, then Brie Severns doubled the lead in the ninth minute off a feed from Klanke.

Klanke made it 3-0 in the 20th minute with a strike from 25 yards just over the outstretched arm of Tiger freshman keeper Regan Wallace. Fellow freshman Erika Upson replaced Wallace in the 36th minute to mark her first career appearance. Wallace finished with four saves.

Avery Smith put in a header off a set piece in the 69th minute to give the Jayhawks their fourth tally of the match. Junior Zahra Cheeseman entered the game at that point, replacing Upson, who made three saves in 33 minutes of action.

Raena Childers closed the scoring with goals in the 72nd and 90th minutes. The final goal was assisted by Klanke.

Kansas (2-0-2) outshot CC, 25-11 in total shots and 13-5 in shots on target. Magali Gagne and Lexi Watts each produced a game-high four shots for Kansas, while Shalom Prince led the Tigers with three.

Tiger freshmen Kendall Memoly and Tyler Rose each started the first game of her career on Sunday.

Colorado College (0-3-1) is idle until facing Bucknell on Thursday, Sept. 7, in Lewisburg, Pa., beginning at 5 p.m. (MT).
