Wyatt Linggi and
Oliver Ramirez scored in the second half to lead the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over UC Santa Cruz Sunday at Stewart Field.
Â
The Tigers won their second straight match and improved to 5-2-1 this season, while UC Santa Cruz fell to 2-5-1.
Â
Linggi scored his second goal of the season at the 64:22 mark of the match to put the Tigers ahead.
Jack Hilliard collected a throw in in the UC Santa Cruz end, juked a couple of Banana Slug defenders along the goal line and slid as he sent a cross to Linggi, who beat UCSC keeper Kian Van Der Meer from in front of the net.
Â
Ramirez then scored his fifth goal of the season and third in his last two games in the 82
nd minute for an insurance goal.
Dylan Rich's shot in front was blocked, then Ramirez had a shot saved by Van Der Meer, but Ramirez collected the rebound and put it home.
Â
CC keeper
Jasper Broad collected his first shoutout of the campaign by making three saves.
Â
"Our legs looked really heavy in the first half, which is understandable given the quick turnaround and difficult game yesterday," head coach
Scott Palguta said. "But I thought we responded well in the second half and asserted ourselves a bit more. Some of our young players really stepped up and made a difference, and it was great to finally shutout an opponent."
Â
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Sept. 29, for their first SCAC match of the season against Centenary in Shreveport, La., beginning at 6 pm (MT).
