Tigers Rout Centenary in SCAC Opener

The Colorado College men's soccer team scored three goals in the first and two in the second to blank Centenary College, 5-0, in the opening game of the conference season on Friday night in Shreveport, La.

The victory improves the Tigers to 6-2-1 and 1-0 in the SCAC, while Centenary falls to 3-4-2 and 0-1 in league play.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead when Oliver Ramirez put them on the board just nine minutes into the contest. Ramirez maneuvered around several Centenary players, pulling Centenary goalie Sam Brocato to the right then shooting to the left of the diving goaltender. It was the sophomore's sixth goal of the season.

At 25:08, Connor Webster gave CC a two-goal lead. Alexander Ward came streaking down the far side and passed to Webster in front at the top of the box. Brocato came out of the box trying to get a hand on the ball but Webster put a sliding shot past him.

The third goal of the half came when Ward was in the far right corner and passed up to Dylan Rich who shot into the left side of the goal at 28:35.

The Tigers notched their two second-half goals late in the contest. Zeke Lubin scored a put-back for his second of the season and Wyatt Linggi corralled a Remi Maher shot for the score.

Two CC goaltenders combined for three saves. Spencer Besselaar had two and Jasper Broad tallied one.

The Tigers also had an impressive 11 shots on goal compared to Centenary's three.

"It was a total team effort tonight," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We started the game really well and asserted ourselves from the opening whistle. It was the best first half of our season to date. I was impressed with the way our young squad managed the game. Now we must quickly focus our attention on a talented and rested St. Thomas."

CC will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 1, at noon MT at the University of St. Thomas in Houston.
