Tigers Capture Mountain West Win at New Mexico

Kaelin Enga and Alexis Wessler scored in the first half and Regan Wallace equaled her career high with 10 saves to lead Colorado College to a 2-1 victory over New Mexico Thursday night in Albuquerque, giving the Tigers their first win of the season.

With the victory, CC improved to 1-8-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Mountain West, while the Lobos fell to 3-2-4 and 0-1-2.

Enga opened the scoring with her first goal of the season in the 29th minute. She took a pass from Alex Sandoval on the left side, moved to the middle and fired a shot into the upper right corner over UNM goalkeeper Alli Davis.

The Tigers doubled the lead in the 41st minute thanks to Wessler's first career goal. Kendall Memoly sent the ball to the top of the box to Shalom Prince, who bodied the ball back to Wessler. The senior defender blasted a shot from 20 yards to the upper right corner past Davis.

Natalie DeGagne scored for New Mexico in the 70th minute to cut the Tiger lead in half.

CC freshman goalie Regan Wallace, meanwhile, was stellar in the first victory of her career. She made four of her 10 saves after New Mexico scored and punched away several crosses as well.

New Mexico held a 24-10 advantage in total shots and an 11-5 lead in shots on target. DeGagne led all players with 10 shots and four on goal, while Brett Tsamasfyros led the Tigers with three total shots and Prince collected a team-high two on goal.

"We are proud of the response of the team tonight coming off a tough opening weekend," head coach Keri Sanchez said. "The fight and heart we displayed was fun to watch. And, we are so excited that (Alexis) Wessler's first collegiate goal was the game winner."

The Tigers return to action on Sunday, Oct. 1, at San Diego State, beginning at 1 pm (MT).
