Dominating Second Half Leads To First Win of Season

The Colorado College men's soccer team scored three goals in the second half and claimed its first victory of the season with a decisive 4-1 victory over Lake Forest College Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Fourteen Tigers attempted a shot on Sunday as CC held a 21-6 advantage in total shots and an 11-4 span on target.

Colorado College stuck first when Oliver Ramirez scored his second goal in as many games to put the Tigers up 1-0 in the 11th minute. Ramirez took a beautiful through pass from Jack Hilliard and cleanly beat Lake Forest keeper Szymon Mocarski into the lower left part of the net.

The Foresters evened things up in the 33rd minute. Gustavo Machado stole the ball from a CC defender and fired a one-timer from 30 yards over the outstretched arms of Tiger keeper Jasper Broad.

The Tigers hit their stride in the final 45 minutes, outshooting Lake Forest, 12-3. Connor Webster gave CC a 2-1 lead in the 62nd minute, completing a pretty tic-tac-toe play from teammates Zeke Lubin and Luke Stefanski. Webster found himself all alone in the middle of the box and beat LFC backup goalie Dennis Turdean, who replaced Mocarski at halftime.

Exactly two minutes later, Dylan Rich scored his first collegiate goal after taking a pass from Teddy Libby on the left side, cutting back to the middle and beating Turdean from just inside the box.

Rex Karjian closed out the scoring with a spectacular individual effort in the 81st minute. He collected the ball in the CC end and went coast-to-coast past several Foresters and fired a shot past Turdean from 20 yards that just went inside the left post.

"I am pleased with the way we attacked the second half today," head coach Scott Palguta said. "I thought we looked slow and sluggish in the first half, but when we upped the intensity and pressure in the second half we controlled the tempo of the game.  I was impressed with many of our underclassmen, they really stepped up and made big contributions."

The Tigers (1-1) travel to Ada, Ohio, next weekend for matches against Wilmington (Sept. 8) and Ohio Northern (Sept. 9).
