Laba Does it Again in OT at #12 Western Michigan

Noah Laba scored 15 seconds into overtime to lift 16th-ranked Colorado College to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over No. 12 Western Michigan Friday night in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Laba skated the entire length of the ice with the puck, split a pair of WMU defenders and placed a backhand past Bronco goalie Cameron Rowe for his third overtime goal this season and CC's fourth consecutive victory, its first four-game conference winning streak since the 2012-13 campaign.

The Tigers (14-8-1, 8-5-0 NCHC) and Western Michigan (15-7-1, 6-7-0) are now tied for fourth place in the league standings. Colorado College is tied with Denver and North Dakota for the NCHC lead with eight league victories.

Dylan Wendt opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 14:21 mark of the first period. The Tigers were solid during the penalty kill, but Alex Bump fired a shot from the left circle that Wendt deflected past CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko with one second left on the man advantage.

Freshman Klavs Veinbergs evened the score with his first career goal at 6:01 of the second period. Jack Millar sent the puck towards the net from the right point and Veinbergs deflected it past Rowe at the far post.

Mbereko and Rowe each came up big in the third period, making some spectacular saves to keep the game even and setting up overtime.

CC outshot the Broncos, 31-24, including a 22-14 advantage in the final two periods and overtime. Stanley Cooley, Tommy Middleton and Ethan Straky led the Tigers with three shots apiece.

Mbereko finished with 24 saves and has allowed just six goals in his last four games. Rowe had 29 saves.

The two teams will battle again on Saturday, Jan. 27, beginning at 4 p.m. (MT).
