CC Routs McMurry, Remains Unbeaten In SCAC

On Sunday, the Colorado College men's soccer team collected another shutout win after downing McMurry University 4-0 in Abilene, Texas. The Tigers improved to 5-0 in SCAC play and extended their unbeaten streak to 22 straight games in conference play without a loss.

CC finished with 31 shots while holding the Warhawks to two, tying the defense's season low for shots surrendered; it's the third occurrence this season.

Senior Alexander Ward tied his season-high of three points with a goal and assist.

The Tigers racked up 15 shots in the first half and struck first in the 39th minute. Freshman Teddy Opler scored his third career goal and first since the season opener against Fontbonne. Opler finished with three shots and 45 minutes off the bench.

Sophomore Wyatt Linggi collected his 11th point in the season and tied for first place on the team with Ward. The San Diego native put the Tigers up 2-0 in the 50th minute after being fed a pass from Ward. It's Linggi's fourth goal of the season, tied for the second most on the team.

Linggi has dished out five points (2g, 1a) in the last three games.

After Linggi's goal, CC kept the foot on the gas pedal in the second half. The Tigers put up 16 shots including eight on net.

Senior Vincent Luglio added to the lead in the 65th minute after an assist from Curtis Hale. Luglio leads the Tigers with five goals.

Ward finalized the Tigers' scoring in the 76th minute with a penalty kick goal after the Warhawks committed a foul inside their own box.

Despite the impressive offensive effort, the Tigers' defense is steadily showing itself as one of the best in the nation. The 4-0 victory is CC's fifth-straight shutout and ninth of the season. Goalkeeper Spencer Besselaar didn't need to make a save but earned his sixth win and fifth shoutout.

The Tigers are the first team in the SCAC to reach 10 wins and improve to 5-0 in conference play. CC continues the road trip next week when it travels to Georgetown, Texas, to take on the only other ranked team in the SCAC, No. 18 Southwestern.

Kickoff against the Pirates is set for Friday, Oct. 18, at 6:30 p.m. MT.
