Tigers Win Battle For First Place Over Austin College

In a battle for first place in the Blue Division of the SCAC, the Colorado College volleyball team exacted some revenge on Austin College with a four-set victory, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16, 25-19, on Friday at Reid Arena.

The Tigers, who avenged a three-set loss to Austin on Oct. 6, in Sherman, Texas, took a match and a half lead over the 'Roos with Friday's win. CC improved to 11-8 overall and 7-2 in the SCAC, while Austin College fell to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in league play.

Once again, Carolyn Dormady, Camille Sherrill and Annie Steger led the Tiger's offensive attack.

Dormady had five of her match-high 17 kills in the first set, while Sherrill loaded up the stat sheet with three kills, four aces and eight digs.

After dropping the second set, CC roared out to a 10-3 lead thanks to a pair of kills from Dormady and Sherrill, and never led by less than six points the rest of the set.

The fourth set was very similar, with the Tigers jumping out to a 10-2 lead and rolling from there with an impressive .333 hitting percentage in the set.

Sherrill finished with 14 kills and 17 digs. Steger collected a match-high 50 assists while Meghan Gannon led all players with 18 digs. Freshman Bella Chen chipped in with a career-high six kills.

"I thought we did a great job coming out serving and passing," head coach Sharon Dingman said. "That's how they put so much pressure on us last time. I thought our serving was really tremendous tonight."

The Tigers will play their final home match of the season on Saturday, Oct. 19, against Dickinson College beginning at 3 p.m. CC's seven seniors will be honored in a post-match ceremony.
