Tigers Shutout Bulldogs, Improve to 7-0 In SCAC Play

The No. 4 Colorado College men's soccer team diced up its seventh-consecutive shutout and improved to 7-0 in conference play with a 2-0 win over Texas Lutheran on Saturday.

"I'm so proud of the grit the team showed this weekend," head coach Scott Palguta said. "Southwestern and TLU are difficult places to get wins, and I thought the boys stood tall. We weren't at our best in attack today, and TLU was extremely tough and organized, so I am particularly pleased that we found a way through on set pieces."

CC has run the table through the first seven games of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, as the Tigers have not lost a conference matchup in the last 25 regular-season SCAC matchups. CC has yet to be scored on in SCAC play since precisely one year ago today, Oct. 20, 2023, against Trinity.

Dylan Stapley and Alexander Ward scored the two CC goals in the 82nd and 84th minute to lift the Tigers to a 12-1-2 record. Stapley put the Tigers up off a set piece, and Ward scored on another penalty kick.

It was scoreless between the Tigers and Bulldogs until the 82nd minute when Rex Karjian drilled a corner kick into the box before Curtis Hale fed Stapley for the goal. It was Stapley's second of the season and Karjian's fifth assist. Hale also knabbed his second assist on the year.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Alex Wolter got his fifth start of the season in net and didn't need to make a save because the Tigers limited the Bulldogs to only four shots (none on net), including one in the second half.

It was the eighth time this year that the Tigers have held their opponents to five or fewer shots.

The first half was a low-action affair. The Tigers dished out only four shots, including two by Alexander Ward and Remi Maher in the fourth and sixth minutes, which were both on the net but saved.

Oliver Ramirez and Vincent Luglio logged the other first-half shots.

In the second half, CC recorded its fifth shot in the 47th minute when Ward aimed at the net, but it was off target. Zeke Lubin found his first shot in the 64th minute after aiming for the bottom right corner of the net, but it was saved.

The clock continued to wind down before the Tigers got a corner kick inside Bulldog territory. Karjian sent the ball in before Hale found Stapley, who found the back of the net.

CC was fouled inside the TLU box three minutes later and awarded a penalty kick. Ward, who's scored a couple already this year, found the back of the net after lining a shot past TLU goalkeeper Noel Pena. Ward leads the Tigers with five goals on the season and now leads in goals, assists (three), and points (13).

Ward led all Tigers with three shots (two on goal) on Sunday.

CC shut down any attempted comeback from TLU and secured its seventh SCAC win of the year.

"Our team defending continues to be excellent. The team took a lot of pride in not allowing TLU a shot on goal today," Palguta said.

The Tigers finished the conference road trip with a perfect 4-0 record and will focus next on returning home to Stewart Field to host Schreiner on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 6 p.m. MT.
