Tigers Topple Mountaineers To Remain Perfect In SCAC Play

The No. 4 Colorado College men's soccer team improved to 8-0 and had its best game defensively on Friday in a 5-0 shutout victory over Schreiner. The Tigers limited the Mountaineers to only one shot, which is a season's best for the CC.

CC came into the game with the best goals-against average in the country and improved on it by shutting out their eighth consecutive opponent. The Tigers have yet to allow a goal since their 1-0 loss to No. 1 Mary Washington on Sept. 21.

Five Tigers accounted for the five goals on Friday. Senior Alexander Ward and Vincent Luglio scored their sixth goals of the season, tied for a team-high. Rex Karjian and Teddy Libby scored their first goals of the year, and Wyatt Linggi added his fifth goal (second on the team).

Ward opened up the scoring in the 15th minute after Teddy Opler found the senior inside the box; Ward laced the ball into the back of the net to give the Tigers the lead. It was Opler's first career assist, as he has nine points on the year and four goals.

18 minutes later, Karjian was all alone on the left side of the goalie box, where Dylan Stapley spotted him from 45 yards back at midfield. Stapley arched a beautiful ball to Karijian, who headed it into the back of the net for his first goal of the season and the third of his career.

Senior Teddy Libby also dished out his first of the season five minutes later from a similar play. Fellow senior Remi Maher passed a gorgeous ball from the left side of the pitch, where Libby one-touched the ball to the right side of the goal to give CC a 3-0 lead.

At the halftime break, CC outshot 16-1. In the second, the Tigers held the Mountaineers to no shots.

Wyatt Linggi increased the gap to four goals in the 78th minute after Owen Lewis advanced a ball into the box. Linggi drew the goalkeeper to the left, leaving the right side of the net open for the San Diego native to score.

Lulgio finalized the scoring in the 82nd minute when Zeke Lubin found Lulgio at the top of the 18 where Luglio made a single move inside and snuck it past the goalkeeper to make it 5-0.

The Tigers finished the game with 35 shots, including 14 on net. Stapley, Ward and Oliver Ramirez led the team with four shots. Goalkeeper Spencer Besselaar collected his sixth shutout of the season but wasn't forced to make a save.

CC will host No. 14 Trinity on Sunday at 11 am MT. Trinity is also 8-0 in SCAC play as Sunday will determine the SCAC regular-season champion.
