Tigers Roll Past Spartans

The Colorado College women's soccer team secured its sixth win of the season and ended a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over San Jose State on Thursday night. The Tigers improved to 6-9-3 (2-5-2) and are 6-1-3 at home.

"I'm just really excited for our team tonight," head coach Keri Sanchez said. "Our goal for today was to go out and get a multi-goal game because in our last home games, I thought we competed really well, but we struggled to put shots on goal and earn goals."

CC outshot SJSU 15-7 and utilized three second-half goals to win its first game since Sept. 26. Brett Tsamasfryos, Kendall Memoly, and Finley Schoenbeck collected tallies on the stat sheet.

The Tigers started the game by putting up seven shots in the first half. Tsamasfyros loaded the first shot 11 seconds into the game, but it was saved. The senior finished the game with a team-high four shots (two on goal) as she recorded her sixth goal of the season.

Tyler Rose led the team, along with Tysamasfyros, with two shots during the halftime break. Rose recorded her first shot in the 24th minute, nearly finding the top left corner of the net. Her second attempt was right in front of the goal in the 36th minute, but SJSU goalkeeper Shayla Sugia made the save.

Memoly, Kaelin Woodruff and Kaelin Enga also recorded shots in the first half, but the game was scoreless at the break.

In the second, Rose opened up the shot-taking in the 48th minute; that, too, was saved. CC put up an additional eight shots in the second half. In the first corner kick attempt of the second in the 59th minute, Woodruff sailed the ball to the right post, which bounced off the iron and found Brett Tsamasfyros, who laced a shot past Sugia to open up the scoring.

14 minutes later, Memoly was about 35 yards out from the goal but still had enough room to drill a shot to the right side of the goal and into the back of the net. Memoly increased her season goal total to four.

Schoenbeck completed the goal trifecta in the 81st minute after Gracie Huebner led the freshmen down the pitch, which Finley had an excellent step on and only put on touch on the ball, which sailed into the goal for her third of the year.

"That's one of the things we talked about between the first and second half," Sanchez said. "Bring a little bit more energy and be more cutthroat going towards the goal. They did a good job, and it was fun to see."

Defensively, goalkeeper Regan Wallace secured her fifth shutout of the year after making three saves.

CC will play its final home game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 27th, at 1:30 p.m. against Fresno State. After the game, the Tigers will honor their 11 graduating players on Senior Day.
