No. 9 Tigers Shut Out UAA For Weekend Sweep

Bret Link and Klavs Veinbergs scored and Kaidan Mbereko stopped 18 shots to lead No. 9 Colorado College to a 2-0 victory and series sweep over Alaska Anchorage Saturday night at Chuck Homan Ice Rick in Anchorage.

The Tigers remained undefeated and moved to 4-0 for the second consecutive season, while UAA fell to 1-7.

Link, playing in his hometown, opened the scoring with his second goal of the year at the 7:13 mark of the opening period. Gleb Veremyev stole the puck in the CC zone and sent a cross-ice pass to Link, who beat UAA goalie Greg Orosz with a wrister from the right circle.

The Tigers killed a five-minute major and game misconduct to Riley Stuart later in the first period, mainly thanks to Mbereko, who made four saves during the penalty.

Just 57 seconds into the third period, CC's Brady Cleveland checked Porter Schachle into the corner boards and a full pane of glass came crashing down on the ice, prompting a 20-minute delay.

Veinbergs gave the Tigers an insurance goal at the 7:20 mark of the third period with a wrister from the left point that gat past Orosz. Veinbergs' first goal of the season was assisted by Zaccharya Wisdom and Cleveland, who collected his first career point.

Mbereko didn't see much work, but was up to the task for the entire game. He made three of his 18 saves during the final 4:29 while UAA pulled Orosz in favor of an extra skater, and posted his and the team's first shutout since March 17, 2023, a 1-0 victory over Denver in the semifinals of the 2023 NCHC Frozen Faceoff.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Nov. 1, when they host cross-town rival Air Force in the Battle for the Pikes Peak Trophy at Robson Arena, starting at 7 p.m.
