Tigers Downed By Rebels In Vegas

The Colorado College women's soccer team was upended by UNLV on Thursday night in Las Vegas under the hot desert sun. The Tigers were up 1-0 at the half, but two second-half Rebel goals, including the game-winner in the 86th minute, elevated UNLV to the 2-1 win.

CC dished out 14 shots, including five on the net. Multiple shots hit the crossbar while the Tigers were already up by a goal that would have put them up 2-0. UNLV took advantage of the unlucky results and scored two unanswered in the final 13 minutes.

The Tigers' eight shots (five on goal) controlled the first half. Senior Alexis Wessler scored her first goal of the season in the 10th minute after Tyler Rose rounded Wessler on an excellent cut toward the net. The Highlands Ranch native broke to her right but then cut left to lace a shot off her left foot into the top corner of the net.

It was Wessler's first goal since Sept. 28, 2023, against New Mexico. It was also the second goal of her CC career.

With the lead, CC kept the pressure on by putting shots up. Kendall Memoly recorded her second shot on goal of the game in the 21st minute, but the lead was kept at 1-0 CC heading into the half.

Out of the break, CC recorded two more shots on net, one by Makenna Kolson and the other by Tyler Rose, in the 61st and 65th minutes.

UNLV knotted the game up at 1-1 in the 78th minute after finding the back of the net off a corner kick. Goalkeeper Regan Wallace got drawn to the right side of the net, but Trinity Buchanan's header forced the ball to the left and tied the match up.

The Rebels took the lead eight minutes later with a shot about 18 yards out that was just out of the reach of the CC defense.

Rose led the Tigers with three shots (one on goal), followed by Brett Tsamasfyros and Memoly, who each had two.

CC dropped to 5-6-2 and will travel to Reno, Nev., to take on the University of Nevada on Sunday, Oct. 6th, at 2 p.m. MT.
