No. 5 CC Rolls Over Austin College

The No. 5 Colorado College men's soccer team handled Austin College 6-1 on Sunday at Stewart Field. The Tigers took 28 shots and held the 'Roos to only four. Six Tigers accounted for the goals.

"We performed well from the first whistle tonight, which I was pleased to see," head coach Scott Palguta said. "We've started many games slowly this year, so we felt good about our first-half performance overall."

Seniors Will Bavier, Alex Meyerhoff, and Vincent Luglio each recorded a goal and assist. Sophomore Jack Hilliard led the team with five shots (three on goal).

CC broke open the floodgates early in the first half when Rex Karjian crossed a ball into the box to a waiting Oliver Ramirez. Ramirez laced the ball into the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

Bavier scored his second goal of the season in the 31st minute after Opler found him inside the box after Zeke Lubin set up the play with a nice pass down inside the 18. It only took six more minutes for the Tigers to go up 3-0. Zeke Lubin finished a beautiful set of passes from Karjian and Opler. Friday was Opler's first multi-assist game, and he has three on the season.

CC went into the halftime break with a 3-0 lead, leading Austin College 10-1 in shots. In the second half, Luglio increased the lead to four with his team-high seventh goal of the season after he topped off a barrage of shots on the 'Roos net after a corner kick.

Meyerhoff scored his second goal of the season after finishing another chaotic play inside the box to put the Tigers up 5-0.

AC finally ended the CC scoring streak in the 57th minute, only the second goal in SCAC play the Tigers have surrendered.

17 minutes later, the Tigers put the game away when Dylan Rich laced his first goal of the season into the right side of the net. CC put up 18 shots in the second half and gave up only three to its adversary.

"The guys who came into the game off the bench were also difference makers.  Everyone came ready to play today, and we will need to do the same on Sunday against Dallas," Palguta said.

The Tigers will aim for a share of the regular-season SCAC title on Sunday when the University of Dallas visits in the final game of the regular season. CC will also celebrate its eight seniors post-game for Senior Day. Kickoff against the Crusaders is scheduled for noon MT.
