Tigers Claim Share Of SCAC Regular Season Crown On Senior Day

2024 is starting to feel like 1992 for the Colorado College men's soccer team. The Tigers secured their second-straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season crown after downing the University of Dallas 6-0. CC is named the co-regular season champion alongside Trinity, as the two programs finish with the same conference record.

CC has the tiebreaker over Trinity and will be the No. 1 seed heading into the SCAC Tournament this weekend in Houston, Texas. The Tigers ended the regular season with a 15-1-3 record, the best win percentage since the 1992 season, when they made their first and only Final Four run.

"Complete," head coach Scott Palguta said on the game. "it was very close to being a complete weekend. The goals were flowing for us this weekend—a lot of different goal scorers and a lot of other contributors."

The Tigers lit up the Crusaders, dishing out a season-high 37 shots while only surrendering one. This was also the fifth time this season that the Tigers have not surrendered a shot on goal.

Wyatt Linggi led the Tigers with five points after recording his first-career multi-goal game and an assist. Linggi's goals came less than a minute from each other in the late minutes of the first half.

Charlie Wagner scored his first career goal in the 41st minute as the Atlanta, GA native became the 18th Tiger to score a goal this season.

Fellow senior Teddy Libby opened up the CC offense in the 18th minute after Zeke Lubin found his teammate on the right side of the box. Libby laced the ball into the back of the net for his second season goal and second in as many games.

Lubin scored his goal in the 48th minute, marking the second time in his career that he has scored and assisted in the same game.

Rex Karjian assisted on the second Linggi goal and Lubin's score. Rex had four assists over the weekend, and Sunday was the sophomore's third multiple-assist game.

Finally, Remi Maher rounded out the offense with his fourth goal of the season after Curtis Hale blocked a shot from the Dallas goalkeeper; Maher was there for the ricochet and scored in the 51st minute to put CC up 6-0.

The Tigers didn't allow a goal for the 13th time this season as Spencer Besslaar played all 90 minutes and didn't have to save a single shot.

Maher led the team with five shots (two on net) as Hale and Oliver Ramirez followed with four shots each.

"Regular season championships don't get you a bid to the NCAA Tournament, but there is something to be said about running the gauntlet in your league," Palguta said. "The team and the staff take great pride in that, and hopefully, we can parlay this confidence to make a run at the SCAC tournament championship."

CC looks ahead to a rematch of the 2023 SCAC Tournament against St. Thomas who will enter the upcoming as the No. 4 seed. Last year the Celts handed the Tigers a 2-1 defeat in the SCAC semis.
