Mbereko Leads No. 8 Tigers to 1-1 Draw and Shootout Win At No. 13 WMU

Kaidan Mbereko made 27 saves, including seven in overtime, to help No. 8 Colorado College battle to a 1-1 tie at No. 13/11 Western Michigan Saturday night in Kalamazoo. Tyler Coffey scored in the seventh shootout round to give CC the extra point in the NCHC standings and allowed the Tigers to take three points during the weekend.

Klavs Veinbergs scored the game-tying goal at the 15:03 mark of the second period during a delayed penalty to send the game to overtime, the fifth consecutive extra-frame game between the two teams at Lawson Arena.

Veinbergs took a pass from Noah Laba at the top of the right circle, cut to the middle and beat WMU goalie Hunter Slukynsky (27 saves) for his team-leading fifth tally of the season. Ty Gallagher collected his team-high seventh assist on the play.

Matteo Costantini opened the scoring with an unassisted goal from the top of the slot just 3:55 into the contest, then Mbereko took over.

The reigning NCHC Goaltender of the Year stopped everything else on the evening, including seven shots in the overtime and four of WMU's shootout attempts.

Coffey then started his attempt to the right, moved to the left and placed a wrist shot over the left should of Slukynsky.

After getting outshot 38-14 Friday night, the Tigers were even in shots on Saturday with each team attempting 28. For the second straight night, neither team scored a power-play goal.

The Tigers (8-1-1 overall, 2-1-1 NCHC) returns home to face No. 12/11 St. Cloud State next weekend, Nov. 22-23, at Ed Robson Arena.
