Tigers Rise Past The Storm In The Twin Cities Invitational

The Colorado College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2006 after downing Simpson College 76-52. Four Tigers scored in double digits as CC made a season-high 12 three-pointers to down the Storm in the Twin Cities Invitational opening game. 
 
Senior Zoë Tomlinson led the team with her second double-double of the season after dishing out 18 points, 15 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. The New York native now has 17 career games with at least 15 points and 15 rebounds in the same game. 
 
Fellow senior Laura Strenk scored 15 points, the most for the Golf, IL native since Nov. 26, 2022, after missing last season. Strenk shot 5-7 from long range and finished 5-9 from the field. The five three-pointers are a career-high for Strenk, who made three in the first half and two in the second. She also finished the night with three assists. 
 
Junior Kayla Mackel added four of her three-pointers and finished the night shooting 50 percent (4-8) from long range, 14 points, two rebounds, four assists and a steal. 
 
Healy Bledsoe balled out with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Bledsoe has racked up at least 11 points and two steals and each game this season.
 
CC got out to an 8-0 run to start the game and never trailed over the 40 minutes of play. The Tigers shot only 37.50 percent in the first quarter but made 50 percent shots from the floor in the second quarter. CC had a 38-25 advantage at the halftime break and limited the Storm to a 35.32 shooting percentage in the first half. 
 
The Tigers stepped out of the locker room for the third quarter and stepped up their shooting from that point on. In the third, CC missed only five shots and dominated the paint. Tomlinson and Bledsoe combined for 12 points. The Tigers increased their lead to 56-39 entering the final quarter. 
 
Strenk led the Tigers in the fourth, scoring five points as they closed the game with their best shooting series with a 66.7 shooting clip. 
 
CC dominated the boards, outrebounding Simpson 42-25, including 12 offensive swipes. The Tigers had 36 points in the paint in addition to their success from long range. 
 
Senior Kyle Rowland finished with four assists, and every player that entered the game scored points to cap an ample Friday night in the Twin Cities. 
 
Host Macalester also won its game against North Central so the Tigers will take on the Scots at 1 pm MT in St. Paul, Minn.
