Phillippe Blais-Savoie scored 3:59 into overtime to lift No. 7 Colorado College to a 1-0 victory over No. 11 St. Cloud State Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena.
Â
Blais-Savoie, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., took a drop pass from
Owen Beckner at the right circle and fired a wrist shot that went top shelf past SCSU Isak Posch for his second career game-winning goal. The puck caromed right back out of the net and the officials had to review that the puck actually went in.
Â
It did, and the Tigers won their nation-leading fourth overtime game of the season to improve to 9-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the NCHC. CC gets two points in the league standings, while the Huskies (9-4-0, 3-1-0) will get one.
Â
Posch and Tiger goalie
Kaidan Mbereko were the stars of the game, however. Posch finished with 34 saves, including several from point-blank range, while Mbereko had 27 in his second shutout of the season and sixth of his career. Each netminder had two saves in the overtime period.
Â
CC attempted 78 total shots, 27 of which were blocked by St. Cloud State. The Tigers'
Ty Gallagher and SCSU's Austin Burnevik led all players with five shots apiece. Beckner and
Noah Laba followed with four shots each, and the two combined to win 21 faceoffs against just eight losses.
Â
The Tigers return to action in two weeks with a weekend series at No. 10 Providence, Dec. 6-7, in Providence, R.I.
