Prairie Wolves Fight Off Tigers In Lincoln

The Colorado College men's basketball team fell against Nebraska Wesleyan 79-68 on Sunday afternoon in Lincoln, Neb. The Tigers battled back after trailing by double digits at the half but fell short in the end. 
 
Asher Nofziger led the Tigers with 16 points, four rebounds, a block, and four steals. All five starters scored in double digits, including senior Scott Ruegg, who shot 4-9 from three-point range and finished with 14 points, four assists and three steals. 
 
Devin Philio gave CC an early lead with 18:39 left in the first half after laying his first bucket in to make it 4-2. The Prairie Wolves regained the lead with a three-pointer to make it 7-3 with 16:44 remaining. 
 
NWU built the advantage to as many as 16 in the first half but brought it back within 10 with 30 seconds left, thanks to a pair of Ruegg free throws. However, a NWU three-pointer made it a 44-31 halftime lead. 
 
CC attempted to battle back in the second half, cutting the lead to under 10 on two occasions. Gavin Carter drilled a three-pointer with 16:00 remaining to make it 50-41.
 
The Prairie Wolves extended their lead to 19 points after another run with 8:26 remaining, and the Tigers worked to make it a nine-point game with a minute to play. The comeback fell short, as NWU took the 79-68 win. 
 
The Tigers impacted the game on the offensive boards, grabbing 13 rebounds compared to NWU's 10. CC had 17 second-chance points but surrendered 44 points in the paint. 
 
Devin Philio was one rebound shy of a double-double and finished with 11 points and two assists. Carter added 11 points and two rebounds. 
 
CC continues its road trip with two games in Memphis at Rhodes College from Nov. 30-Dec. 1. The Tigers will face Washington University on Saturday, Nov. 30, before the University of Chicago on Sunday.
