No. 8 Tigers Win Again In OT To Stay Undefeated

Zaccharya Wisdom scored 1:44 into overtime to lead No. 8 Colorado College to a 4-3 overtime victory over Arizona State in the NCHC opener Friday night at Ed Robson Arena.

Wisdom completed a 2-on-1 as his second goal of the season breezed past ASU goalie Gibson Homer from the left circle. Kaidan Mbereko started the play with a save on Ty Jackson, then Burkholder sent the puck to Wisdom.

The game went to overtime thanks to CC captain Stanley Cooley, who scored with 57 seconds remaining in regulation as Mbereko was on the bench in favor of an extra skater.

The Tigers improved to 7-0-0 for the first time since the 1998-99 season with their third overtime win of the campaign and fourth one-goal victory on Fridays.

Burkholder opened the scoring just 3:59 into the contest with a power-play goal, assisted by Klavs Veinbergs and Drew Montgomery. Veinberge doubled the lead at 11:45 of the first period, putting home a rebound from the slot after Homer saved a shot from Bret Link.

ASU's Ryan Alexander cut the CC lead to one with 1:45 remaining in the opening frame when his shot from the side of the net deflected off a CC defender's stick and snuck past Mbereko.

The Sun Devils dominated the second period and first half of the third frame. They outshot the Tigers, 14-4, in the second and tied the game at the 6:40 mark when Dylan Jackson took a pass from Noah Beck at the far post and poked home a shot.

Beck gave Arizona State its first lead of the game at 7:17 of the third with a power-play goal.

On the game-tying goal, Cooley was parked at the side of the net to the right of Homer and Ty Gallagher found him with a perfect pass from the point that Cooley roofed over Homer's shoulder for his second tally of the season.

ASU held a 30-21 advantage in shots and was 1-for-3 on the power play, while the Tigers capitalized on one of its two man-advantage opportunities.

Mbereko finished with 27 saves, while Homer collected 17.

The two teams will battle again on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m.
