Nofziger Has Career Day As Tigers Fall To Maroons

The Colorado College men's basketball team were downed by the University of Chicago 74-63 in Memphis, TN; however, senior Asher Nofziger put up a career-high 32 points and 16 rebounds.

Nofziger was a force all over the hardwood. He went 2-3 from long range, converted six of seven attempts at the free throw line, and racked up a block and a steal defensively.

Senior Scott Ruegg followed suit with 12 points and an assist.

The Maroons utilized a solid second half to propel over the Tigers despite CC leading at halftime.

Nofziger scored his first basket with 18:01 remaining in the first half to increase an existing Tiger lead to 7-3. He led all scorers with 16 points in the half.

The lead exchanged hands seven times before the halftime break, CC led for the first five minutes after buckets from Nofziger, Ruegg and Devin Philio. The Maroons took their first 10-9 lead with 15:46 remaining.

Orion Samikoglu scored in the paint to regain the CC advantage to make it 16-15. Both teams exchanged scores for the remaining 10 minutes before Nofziger got fouled and converted on two free throws to give CC a 36-35 halftime lead.

CC shot 45.16 percent from the floor in the first, limiting UChicago to a slightly less than 43.75 shooting percentage.

The Maroons shot the basketball significantly better in the second half, led by Daniel Cochran who finished the game with 15 points, 13 of which came in the latter half.

The Tigers struggled shooting the basketball after the half, converting on only 28.13 percent from the floor.

UChicago made 17 free throws in the second half compared to only one in the first 20 minutes to help seal the eventual 74-63 win.

CC takes next weekend off before returning to the road to take on St. Thomas in Houston, TX, on Saturday, Dec. 14th.
