The Colorado College women's basketball team impressed in its first showing of the D3Hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas, Nev. The Tigers routed Susquehanna 74-45 at the South Point Arena. 
 
Senior Zoë Tomlinson knabbed her seventh double-double after leading all players with 26 points and 18 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. Tomlinson finished with two assists and three blocks. Junior Kayla Mackel followed with 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal. 

"We couldn't have asked for a better opening game after winter break and are thankful for the opportunity to compete in the prestigious D3hoops.com Classic," head coach Katherine Auguste said. "Today's game showed what we are capable of with our halfcourt defense when we buy into ball pressure and early help rotations, and our aggressive mentality on that end of the floor gave us a spark. Offensively, we found a good flow and shared the ball well." 
 
CC went on a 21-2 run over the first 8 minutes and 11 seconds to start the game. The Tigers shot 42.11 percent in the first quarter and held the River Hawks to a game-low 10.53 percent. 
 
Tomlinson led the team with eight points in the first quarter, and Mackel and Healy Bledsoe each dished out four points. CC held Susquehanna to only two made field goals. 
 
In the second quarter, the River Hawks cut the lead to seven with 3:18 left in the half. Tomlinson ended the Susquehanna run with a layup inside the paint to make it 30-21 with 2:47 left. 
 
Mackel made a three-pointer a minute later, followed by another Tomlinson jumper as the Tiger went into the break with a 35-23 lead. 
 
After scoring only 12 points in the second quarter, CC's offense exploded in the third quarter for 24 points and extended the lead to 30 points with a minute to play. 
 
Six Tigers scored in the third as the team shot 47.37 percent from the floor, including 37.50 percent from three-point range. Sophomore Isa Nelson shot 2-3 from long range, finishing the game with eight points and a rebound. 
 
Much like the first quarter, CC's defense locked down Susquehanna and held its offense to only three made field goals (3-15). 
 
The Tigers carried a 59-29 lead into the final 10 minutes and continued to shoot the ball well in the fourth despite the River Hawks attempting to cut into the lead. 
 
Sophomore Willa McLaughlin led the team with four points in the quarter and finished the game with six points, six rebounds, and a career-high three blocks. 
 
CC's bench had one of its best outings of the season, putting up 15 points. 
 
Avery Johnson and Kyle Rowland combined for eight points, three rebounds and three assists. 

"Zoë's effort against major physicality yielded a ton in the way of rebounds and points, all of which helped us maintain control of the game," Auguste said. "Kayla contributed a complete game and showed her ability to impact the game in a versatile way with her assists and rebounds in addition to her mainstay scoring ability. Today was a team effort all around and we will look to build on it when we face SUNY New Paltz this Monday."
 
The Tigers have a couple of days off before playing again on Monday against SUNY New Paltz at 3 pm MT.
