Tigers Edged by No. 31 Southwestern Univ.

The Colorado College men's tennis team came excruciatingly close to posting its first victory over SCAC foe Southwestern University in 10 years Sunday, but fell to the 31st-ranked Pirates, 5-4, in the regular-season finale Sunday morning in Georgetown, Texas.

Southwestern took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches when its No. 1 team of Oscar Roy and Joseph Snyman edged Andrew Kaelin and Aiden Little, 8-7(6). Dominik Kaminski and Justin Boder captured the No. 3 match for CC, downing Travis Rafferty and Jared Burton, 8-6.

The teams split the six singles matches, with Kaelin and Lucas Pastor winning at the top two spots for the Tigers. Kaelin defeated Snyman, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 1 position, while Pastor downed Anton Borovik, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2.

Kaminski defeated Burton for the second time, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 6 spot, but the Pirates won the other three matches, including an exciting, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, win by Rafferty over Little at the No. 3 spot. Southwestern won the No. 4 and 5 matches in straight sets.

The Tigers (6-12, 2-2 SCAC) open play in the SCAC Tournament on Friday, April 26, in Sherman, Texas. CC will be the No. 3 seed and face sixth-seeded St. Thomas in the quarterfinals on Friday. Click here for the tournament bracket.
