Stanley Cooley has been named team captain of the Colorado College hockey team for the 2024-25 season, while
Noah Laba and Ethan Straky will serve as assistant captains, according to head coach
Kris Mayotte.

Cooley, a forward from Regina, Saskatchewan, has not missed a game at CC, playing in all 111 during his three years. Serving as an assistant captain each of the last two seasons, Cooley posted 14 points (5g.9a) this past season and is No. 2 on the career scoring list for returners with 52 points (17g,35a). He collected a career-high 20 points (6g,14a) during his sophomore season when he tied for the team lead in assists.

"Stanley has worn a letter for us since his sophomore season because of his work ethic, toughness and team first mentality," Mayotte added. "He is going to be a great captain."

Laba, meanwhile, earned second-team All-American and first-team All-NCHC honors this past season as a sophomore. He also earned the NCHC Defensive Forward of the Year award after leading the team with 37 points, 20 goals and 17 assists. Laba, a forward from Northville, Mich., led the NCHC and finished fourth in the nation with seven game-winning goals, the most by a Tiger since Brett Sterling had eight in 2005-06. Four of his GWG in overtime, including both games at No. 12 Western Michigan and at No. 1 North Dakota. Laba, who also finished third in the country with three shorthanded goals in '23-24, is the team's returning career-leading scorer with 59 points (31g,28a).

Straky was one of 10 Tigers to appear in all 37 games last season and has played in all 75 in his first two seasons. He recorded five points (2g,3a) as a sophomore after collecting 10 points (2g,8a) as a freshman. Straky, a defenseman from Ormond Beach, Fla., was fifth on the team with 33 blocked shots and recorded a career-high +3 in a 7-1 victory over No. 2 North Dakota. Â
"Noah and Ethan have grown tremendously in two seasons here at CC," Mayotte said. "Their growth as players and leaders has allowed us to take big steps forward."

Colorado College opens the 2024-25 season with an exhibition game against Briercrest College (Canada) on Saturday, Oct. 5, while the regular season begins Oct. 11-12, with a weekend series against Northern Michigan at Ed Robson Arena.
