Tigers Open Up Home Schedule Against Jackrabbits

The Colorado College women's soccer team opens up the home schedule with a slate of games against South Dakota State and Northern Colorado. It will be the first-ever game against the Jackrabbits and the first against the Bears since 2021. The Tigers are 3-2 in their last five home-opening contests.

Last Time Out

CC opened up the 2024 season against a pair of formidable opponents in Montana and No. 25 Iowa in Missoula, MT, last weekend. The Tigers fell short in both contests but showed tremendous fight against the defending Big Sky champion and Big Ten Tournament champion.

Notable Performances
1) #21 Finley Schoenbeck - The freshman recorded her first career goal on Sunday against No. 25 Iowa, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the first half. She ended the weekend with 122 minutes played, two shots and a lone goal.
2) #25 Brett Tsamasfyros - Leads the team with three shots, all of which came on Thursday against Montana.
3) #12 Alexis Wessler - Senior Alexis Wessler logged 174 minutes over the
weekend, which led the team outside of goalkeeper Regan Wallace

Finding the Offense

The Tigers are trying to up the volume of their goal scoring from a season ago when the team ended with 15 goals total. Through two games, the lone goal scorer is the first-year player from Spicewood, Texas, Finley Schoenbeck

Schoenbeck was fed a fantastic ball from Tyler Rose to go up 1-0 against No. 25 Iowa on Sunday. The Tigers currently have two players, in Kaelin Enga and Brett Tsamasfyros, who have multiple career goals.

The Tigers have numerous options to lean on for potential goal scoring, but it may be a "scoring by committee" campaign, as head coach Keri Sanchez hinted towards leading up to the season. Enga also scored as a freshman in 2021, finishing the season with two goals and an assist. She has 14 career points (5g, 4a).

Rose has the lone assist on the year and has three career points and also recorded 11 shots in her freshman campaign, second most amongst all first-year players.

Home Sweet Home

CC has won three of its previous five home openers. It's 2023 opener was a 1-3 loss to Louisiana Tech.

In 2022, Keri Sanchez collected her first win at home as the Tigers' head coach with a 2-1 victory over Bucknell. In the same game, then-freshman Kaelin Enga scored her first game-winning goal after the Tigers rallied with two second-half goals.

Scouting the Opposition

South Dakota State enters the week 1-1 after defeating Northern Colorado 2-0 on Monday night in Greeley. Three players have scored this season for the Jackrabbits, including two freshmen, Adrianne Agbayani and Mia Bosch.

Some key upperclassmen also lead the Jackrabbits; graduate senior defender Kaycee Manding and senior midfielder Avery Murdzek were named to the 2024 Mac Hermann Women's Trophy Watch List. The pair were among 44 players at the Division I level recognized. They also were highlighted on their respective positions' watch lists.

Up Next

CC will take on in-state foe, Northern Colorado, on Sunday at 6 p.m. at Stewart. The Bears played the Jackrabbits on Monday but were downed 2-0. They will play another game against another Mountain West opponent in Colorado State on Thursday night.

UNC is 0-2 entering the weekend slate.
