The Colorado College women's soccer team wraps up non-conference play on Thursday, Sept. 9th, at Stewart Field against the University of Buffalo at 6 p.m. MT. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
Last Time Out
CC improved to 4-4-0 with a 3-2 win over UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Sept. 8. The Tigers ended a two-game skid and remained perfect at home.
Brett Tsamasfyros led the team with a hat trick, the first for CC since 2017.
The Tigers trailed 1-0 early in the first half before Tsamasfyros scored two goals to give the home team a 2-1 lead at halftime.
UCSB knotted the match up at 2-2 in the 70th minute. When it seemed like the game was heading towards a tie, Freshman
Emily Archuleta fed one of the best crosses all year to Tsamasfyros, who elevated herself above the defense and headed in the game-winner.
CC had a .500 shot-on-goal percentage.
Sweet Sweet Stewart
The Tigers are 4-0 at Stewart Field to start the season for the first time since 2019. CC downed UC Santa Barbara for its fourth straight victory in Colorado Springs.
CC beat South Dakota State, Northern Colorado, and UCCS during this stretch. At Stewart, the Tigers have outscored their opponents 10-3 and have put up 26 shots on net.
All four victories have come at home this season. Head coach
Keri Sanchez hopes to take the magic her team has produced in Colorado Springs to the road, as CC is 0-4 away from Stewart Field.
Player of the Week
Brett Tsamasfyros was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 9.
It's the San Mateo, Calif. native's first conference Player of the Week award and the first of the season for CC.
Regan Wallace was named Defensive and Freshman Player of the Week in the final week of the 2023 season. The last time a Tiger was named Offensive POTW was in 2022.
Tsamasfyros led the Tigers to a 3-2 win over UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Stewart Field.
Brett scored three goals for her first career hat trick and the first for CC since 2017.
Scouting the Opposition
The Bulls come into Thursday with an unbeaten 4-0-1 record. Buffalo has strung together some impressive wins in its first five games, including a 2-1 victory over then No. 7 Pittsburgh on Aug. 22.
It was Buffalo's first-ever win over a top-10 program and its third win over a Power Five opponent in the Shawn Burke era.
UB is led by senior Jasmine Guerber, who has a team-high three goals and an assist this season. On Senior Day, against Colgate, Guerber racked up a season-high three points with a goal and assist.
The Bulls are coached by head coach Shawn Burke, who is in his 11th season at the helm. Burke is a two-time MAC Coach of the Year and has 105 career wins.
