Tigers Battle With Buffalo To A Draw

The Colorado College women's soccer team secured its first undefeated start through five games at home since 2014. After tying the University at Buffalo 1-1 at Stewart Field on Thursday night, the Tigers are 4-0-1 at home.

Senior Brett Tsamasfyros continued her scoring dominance. After dishing out a hat trick five days ago, Tsamasfyros found the back of the net in the third minute after sophomore Tyler Rose crossed the ball into the box. From Rose's feed, Tsamasfyros moved past a defender and drilled a shot off her right foot past the Buffalo goalkeeper.

"I love that we came out aggressive and got the lead and scored early, so that was great on our part," head coach Keri Sanchez said. "I love that [Brett] is coming on. She had a great preseason so we can hope she can continue to be in this role where she is scoring goals."

It's the San Mateo, Calif. native's fourth goal this week as she continued to show why she was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Game on Monday.

The Tigers took the 1-0 lead with the goal and continued to hold it into the second half. At the break, CC had only two shots, the other coming from Kendall Memoly in the 34th minute. The story of the game was the solid and steadfast CC defense.

Goalkeeper Regan Wallace had one save in the first half but three in the second half. Wallace ended the night with four saves.

In the 67th minute, Buffalo knotted up the match after Olivia Bizzoni scored after some continuous pressure from the Bulls.

CC remained confident on defense and held the tie for the remainder of the game. Junior Evie Biggs played all 90 minutes on defense, and senior Ava Risser played 75 minutes.

The tie is the first of the season for the Tigers as they now head into the bye week with a .500 record. It is the best start for CC through nine games since the 2019 season.

"I love that we have our grittiness back on defense," Sanchez said. "I think that's gonna be the staple [for us]. We keep the ball out of the back of the net, we're gonna have a chance in every game."

Mountain West play officially starts for the Tigers in two weeks when the University of Wyoming comes to town on Thursday, Sept. 26.
