The Colorado College volleyball team opened the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action Friday night with an impressive three-set victory, 25-18, 25-23, 25-14, over the University of St. Thomas at Reid Arena.
Â
Carloyn Dormady led the Tigers with 15 kills and
Annie Steger collected 38 assists as the Tigers improved to 5-6 overall and 1-0 in the SCAC.
Â
Playing their first home match in the month of September, the Tigers jumped on the Celts early and cruised to a 25-18 triumph in the first set.
Carolyn Dormady and
Camille Sherrill led CC with five kills apiece.
Â
The second set was a back-and-forth affair the whole way. The Tigers trailed 22-19, but rattled off five straight points, including a couple kills from Dormady and a service ace by
Annie Steger. UST cut the lead to 24-23, but Dormady hammered home a kill to win the set.
Â
Colorado College held that momentum for the third set, rallying from a 10-9 deficit to take a 14-12 lead, then finished the match with an 11-2 run. Dormady had four kills in the final set, while
Steph Brown collected three.
Â
Brown and
Camille Sherrill each finished the match with nine kills, while
Meghan Gannon had 20 kills, followed by Steger with 13.
Â
"It is great to get a win in the conference opener," head coach
Sharon Dingman said. "We had such a great week of training, even with it being finals week and moving into block break. Our players were so focused all week and we talked before the match about taking everything we used during the week and put it into the match, and that's what we did."Â Â
Â
Audrey Cataline led St. Thomas (5-7, 0-1 SCAC) with six kills and collected 10 digs, two less than team leader Kara Spice.
Â
The Tigers return to action on Friday, Sept, 27 against the University of Dallas at Reid Arena, beginning at 6 p.m.
