Tigers Sweep McMurry For Fifth Straight Win

The Colorado College volleyball team won its fifth consecutive match and improved to 3-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Saturday with a three-set victory, 25-22, 25-18, 25-12, over McMurry University at Reid Arena.

Every match during the winning streak as been a sweep, and Carolyn Dormady and Camille Sherrill led the one on Saturday.

Dormady collected a match-high 17 kills with just two errors on 34 attempts for a .441 hitting percentage. Sherrill, meanwhile, added 15 kills and a .344 hitting percentage.

Brooke Brilliant followed with 10 kills with just one error for a match-high and season-best .529 percentage.

Annie Steger collected 37 assists as the Tigers improved to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the SCAC. Meghan Gannon had a match-best 15 digs, followed by Steger with 12.

The War Hawks jumped out to 12-9 lead in the first set, but Dormady had three kills and Sherrill two to give the Tigers a 16-14 lead, one they did not relinquish. Dormady and Sherrill each had six digs in the first set.

The Tigers cruised through the final two sets, only trailing early in the third set, 6-4, but kills by Sherrill, Brilliant and Steger put CC up 10-6 and they outscored McMurry 15-6 from then on.

"This was a fun and productive weekend for us," head coach Sharon Dingman said. "We appreciate the crowd and the support from other teams and student-athletes. Annie Steger is running a very efficient offense and the results are indicative of that."

Jacee Dinkins and Addyson Tiffin led McMurry (6-7, 1-2 SCAC) with six kills apiece, while Carli Colbert had 11 assists.

The Tigers travel next weekend for conference matches at Centenary on Saturday, Oct. 5 and at Austin College on Sunday, Oct. 6, both beginning at 2 p.m. (CT).
