Laba's Hat Trick Fuels No. 18 Tigers Past Minnesota Duluth

Noah Laba posted his first career hat trick and Owen Beckner collected a career-high four assists to lead No. 18 Colorado College to a 7-2 victory over Minnesota Duluth Friday night at Ed Robson Arena.

Max Burkholder and Fisher Scott each added a goal and two assists and Kaidan Mbereko had 20 saves as the Tigers (11-9-1, 5-5-1 NCHC) snapped a five-game losing streak and gathered a season-high in goals.

Laba opened the scoring at the 12:41 mark of the first period when he slammed home a rebound after UMD goalie Klayton Knapp saved a shot by Ethan Straky.

Gleb Veremyev notched his team-high sixth goal of the season with 1:25 remaining in the first period for a 2-0 lead. Veremyev took a beautiful cross-ice pass from Drew Montgomery during an odd-man rush and buried his shot past Knapp.

Scott made it 3-0 just 1:24 into the middle frame with a shot from the point, then Burkholder chased Knapp (nine saves) from the game less than two minutes later with a power-play goal from the slot after taking a pass from Ty Gallagher.

Laba put the Tigers ahead 5-0 with their third goal in 4:22 when he took a pass from Beckner and roofed a shot past UMD backup netminder Zach Sandy (14 saves)

The Bulldogs (8-12-1, 4-7-0) got on the board with a goal from Ty Hanson at the 16:44 mark, but CC team captain Stanley Cooley responded just 14 seconds later with a power-play goal, marking the second time this season that the Tigers scored four goals in a period.

Laba completed the hat trick, taking another pass from Beckner after Scott forced a turnover in the Duluth end cleanly beating Sandy at 5:36 of the third period. Beckner tied Laba for the most assists in a game this season.

UMD's Callum Arnott closed out the scoring with a power-play goal at the 8:42 mark of the final frame.
