Tigers Ground War Hawks, Remain A Perfect 7-0 At Home

Senior Zoë Tomlinson had a career day to lead the Colorado College women's basketball team over McMurry University 70-51 on Sunday afternoon.
 
The New York native dished 34 points, a season-high 18 rebounds, and tied her career-high four blocks and four steals. It's the first time in her career she has scored 30+ points in consecutive games. 
 
The Tiger hunkered down defensively in the second half, holding the War Hawks to only 27.69 percent from the floor, including 15.38 percent in the fourth quarter. 
 
CC ended the game with eight steals and forced 13 turnovers. Tomlinson led the team with four steals, and Healy Bledsoe had three. The Bend, Ore. native had three steals that resulted in fast-break layups as she finished with seven points, a rebound and three assists. 
 
Junior Avery Johnson logged a career-high four assists and finished with two rebounds and a steal. 
 
The Tigers led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter after Tomlinson scored her first eight points. In the second, McMurry cut down on the lead and took a 16-15 lead with 8:01 remaining in the half. A good tip-in by Tomlinson on the next play swayed the advantage back to the Tigers, who never lost it for the remainder of the half. 
 
CC worked the lead up to nine points after a Laura Strenk three-pointer to make it 25-16 with 5:05 left on the clock. Juliana Garcia answered a War Hawk basket with a three-pointer of her own, followed by another Tomlinson tip-in after an offensive rebound to make it an 11-point lead with 3:42 till the half. 
 
McMurry went on a mini run over the final few minutes and trailed only 32-27 at the break. 
 
The War Hawks built on the momentum in the third quarter and regained a 37-36 lead with 6:35 left. The Tigers then went on their best offensive run on the day, shooting 61.54 percent from the floor in the third, led by Tomlinson's 10 points and three three-pointers from sophomore Isa Nelson. 
 
Nelson finished with 12 points, four threes, three rebounds, and an assist. 
 
CC led 54-44 heading into the fourth and proceeded to lock down McMurry to only seven points and 15.38 percent from the floor. 
 
Kayla Mackel led the team with eight points and went 2-3 from long range in the final 10 minutes. CC built the lead up to as many as 24 points (70-46) with 2:37 remaining. 
 
The Tigers cruised to the eventual 70-51 win, staying perfect at home while improving to 13-2 (5-1 SCAC) on the season. 
 
CC hosts Centenary and the University of the Ozarks next weekend, starting with Centenary on Friday, Jan. 24, at 5:30 pm MT.
