No. 24 CC Heads South For SCAC Road Games

The Colorado College women's basketball team looks to continue its winning streak as it travels to Texas to play Southwestern University (Friday, Jan. 10, 5:30 p.m. CT) and Texas Lutheran University (Sunday, Jan. 12, noon CT).

Ranked For the First Time Ever

CC (10-1) has won six straight and has not lost since Nov. 25, 2024. Earlier this week, the Tigers were ranked No. 25 in the D3Hoops.com and No. 24 in the WBCA national polls, marking the first time the program has been named in either poll.

The first WBCA poll was released in 1996, and the Tigers made their first-ever appearance. They tied for 24th with Bates University, with 24 points.

CC has been on the outside looking in for the last few weeks, receiving the most votes outside the top 25, but after a 53-40 win over St. Thomas on Saturday, the Tigers moved up into the polls.

The Tigers are tied for 17th in the country with their 90.9 winning percentage and are off to their best start since the 1976 season.

In The SCAC

CC stands atop the Blue Division in the SCAC standings with a 2-0 conference record and is in the top three of every major conference offensive category.

The Tigers have the third-best scoring offense (70.6 points per game) and scoring defense, as well as the second-best scoring margin (+13.5) and field goal percentage (.437).

National Player of the Week

Senior Zoë Tomlinson was announced on Tuesday, January 7, as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National Player of the Week.

Tomlinson posted double-doubles in all three games that the Tigers won.

For the week, she averaged 21.7 points, 16.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.7 blocks while shooting 47.5 percent (19-of-40) from the field and 75.0 percent (27-of-36) from the foul line.

For her efforts, Tomlinson, currently tied for fourth in NCAA Division III with 14.1 rebounds per game, was selected to the D3hoops Classic All-Tournament Team and named the SCAC Player of the Week.

Tomlinson has won three SCAC Player of the Week awards this season.

Scouting The Opposition

Southwestern (3-8) is fifth in the Gold Division standings and is trying to end a four-game losing streak, including back-to-back losses to Texas Lutheran.

The Pirates are led by sophomore Adrianna McCoy, who averages 11.6 points per game and has -made 16 three-pointers this season. Fellow sophomore Trinity Benitez commands the boards with a team-high 6.5 rebounds per game and is the second-leading scorer, averaging 9.1 points per game.

Trinity Lutheran (8-2) is atop the Gold Division standings after winning its first two SCAC matchups against Southwestern on Jan 2 and 4. The Bulldogs have the second-best offense in the conference, averaging 72.3 points per game, led by junior Lauren Sansano, who scores 13.5 points per game.

Last season, the Bulldogs defeated the Tigers in both regular-season contests, but CC avenged the losses with a 57-52 victory in the SCAC Tournament Semifinals.
