CC Ties With Concordia (TX), Extend Unbeaten Streak To 12 Games

An early goal from sophomore Will Jones, countered by a last-minute goal by the Tornadoes, forced the Colorado College men's soccer team to settle for a 1-1 tie against Concordia (TX) at Stewart Field on Senior Day.

Jones scored in the 10th minute off a corner kick that junior Jack Hilliard set up. Hilliard sent it long to Dylan Stapley, who headed it to Jones, awaiting his own header that went into the back of the net. It was Jones' first career goal and his fourth point of the season.

Stapley and Hilliard got credited with the assists on the goal.

Connor Rodgers scored off a late free-kick opportunity that allowed Concordia to tie the game with 24 seconds remaining.

Hilliard led all players with four shots, two SOG and played all 90 minutes. CC outshot CTX 14-9, and each team had four shots on target.

The Tigers outshot the Tornadoes 5-3 in the first half. Hilliard led the team with two of them, and Rex Karjian had the other shot on goal in the sixth minute.

CC led 1-0 at the break. In the second half, sophomore Teddy Opler opened off the shot-taking for the Tigers in the 49th minute that went over the top. Hilliard took his third shot three minutes later, which went wide left.

The flurry of shots continued for the Tigers in the 60th minute as they took five straight shots before the Tornadoes finally responded with a shot on goal in the 81st minute that Wolter saved.

CTX took the final four shots of the game, including the game-tying goal by Roberts in the 90th minute after CC got called for a goalkeeper "eight-second rule," allowing the Tornadoes to set up a free kick and score to tie the game at 1-1.

With the tie, the Tigers remain undefeated through 12 games, extending their program-best start to the season. They also have not lost in 34 consecutive SCAC regular-season games.

Goalkeeper Alex Wolter finished with three saves.

CC will travel to Sherman, Texas, to take on Austin College on Friday, Oct. 17, and then visit LeTourneau on Oct. 19 for the first-ever conference matchup between the two teams.
