A penalty kick from the University of Wyoming in the 49th minute was the decider in a 1-0 victory over Colorado College in Laramie, WY, on Sunday afternoon.
Mountain West leading scorer Alyssa Glover scored the penalty following a foul in CC's box early in the second half.
CC finished the game outshooting Wyoming 12-11, with four shots and one SOG from junior midfielder
Kendall Memoly. Junior forward
Tyler Rose added a season-high three shots, two on net, in only 57 minutes on the pitch.
Junior goalkeeper
Regan Wallace made four saves.
Rose had the first shot on goal for CC in the 10th minute, which goalkeeper Haley Bartel saved. Rose's second shot came just five minutes later, but it was blocked.
Memoly had her first shot in the 34th minute.
Gracie Huebner had her one shot in the 35th minute, but a Cowgirl defender blocked it. Each team had four shots in the first half as the score was knotted at 0-0 at the halftime break.
In the second half, Wyoming was awarded a penalty kick after a CC foul inside its own box in the 49th minute. Glover was able to score her 10th goal of the season off the PK.
CC tried to respond with a flurry of shots from Memoly,
Sophia Mayne and
Emily Hitt between the 53rd and 58th minutes. Wyoming responded with two shots of their own in the 60th minute, one of which was on target.
Junior
Emma Smith had one of the best looks of the game in the 71st off a corner that she headed towards the goal, but a Wyoming defender barely made the last-second save to keep the 1-0 lead.
Rose, Memoly, and
Nadia Cassamajor added three more CC shots in the remaining minutes but were unable to find the back of the net, and the Tigers ultimately fell 1-0.
They move to 3-6-5 on the season and look ahead to their final conference home series, starting with Nevada on Thursday, Oct. 16th
