Tigers Blank Yellow Jackets, Remain Unbeaten

The Colorado College men's soccer team defeated LeTourneau University on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 1-0, thanks to a goal by Jack Hilliard in the 58th minute.

Hilliard, who is second on the team with 34 shots this year, got his third goal of the season after lining up outside the box and rifling a ball into the right side of the net. Freshman Jack Purvis got the assist, the first of his career and his third point of the weekend. Purvis had the game-tying goal against Austin College on Friday.

"Today's win was gritty as well-earned," head coach Scott Palguta said. "The second game on these Texas trips are always a challenge, and we were a bit thin due to injuries. The team dug deep and Jack scored a special goal to secure the three points."

CC and LeTourneau tied in shots 12-12, but the Tigers had four shots on goal compared to the Yellow Jackets' two.

Opler followed up his shot-heavy game on Friday with six more on Sunday, bringing his total of the weekend to 16, which leads the team. The Wyoming native had one on target. Hilliard added three more shots, two of which were on frame.

Goalkeeper Alex Wolter got his ninth shutout of the season, which is tied for first in the nation among all DIII goalkeepers.

Wolter finished with two saves.

Opler and Hilliard collected the first two shots on goal for CC, the only of the opening half.

In the second half, CC had only one shot in the half before Hilliard lined up his goal from about 25 yards out after receiving Purvis' feed. He laced it right past the Yellow Jackets' keeper into the back of the net to break the scoreless draw.

Each team had only one more shot on goal before the end of the game, both of which were saved. After the Tigers' goal, they limited LeTourneau to only three shots for the rest of the half.

CC improved to 8-0-6 (5-0-3 SCAC) on the year, extending its record of unbeaten games to start the season to 14-straight.

The Tigers will return home to host McMurry for the final home game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 31st.
