A 65th-minute goal by
Kendall Memoly and a shutout performance by the defense lifted the Colorado College women's soccer team over UNLV 1-0 on Sunday, Oct 19th at Stewart Field.
CC celebrated its seniors on Senior Day by delivering a victory in its final home game of the year.
Memoly worked in tandem with freshman
Kate Pulley after receiving a pass from sophomore
Finley Schoenbeck. Pulley passed to the open Memoly inside the box, who put it in the back of the net after it bounced off the Rebels' goalkeeper.
It's the first career assist for Pulley and the third of the year for Schoenbeck. Memoly leads the team with six goals.
For the whole offense, it was the highest shot volume the Tigers have had all year, peppering 25 shots on the Rebels' defense. Schoenbeck led the team with a career-high six shots, two of which were on target.
Memoly followed with four shots (two on target), and freshman
Sophia Mayne added a career-high three shots.
The bulk of CC's firing came in the first half, where it outshot UNLV 16-5. Despite the offense clicking, the score at halftime was a scoreless 0-0 draw.
In the second half, Schoenbeck had the first good look on frame that hit the top woodwork and bounced over. Sophomore Charolette Strabel had her first shot minutes later, which was saved.
Time continued to pass by before, in the 65th minute, Schoenbeck led the offense down the field and fed a pass into the awaiting Pulley. The Utah native then slid the ball to Memoly, whose shot deflected off the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Now working with a lead, the CC defense continued to hold UNLV to limited shots. The Rebels managed to get only one more shot on goal after the Memoly goal, which goalkeeper
Regan Wallace saved.
Wallace finished the game with two saves and got her fifth shutout of the season.
The Tigers secured their first set of back-to-back wins of the season and moved to 5-6-5 on the year. They will travel to Phoenix, AZ, and play Grand Canyon University for the first time as conference foes on Sunday, Oct. 26th.
