Tigers Set To Run at West Regionals in California

The Colorado College men's and women's cross country teams look to continue their success on the course at the Division III West Regional Championship Meet on Saturday, Nov. 15, in Claremont, Calif.

The men's race will begin at 9 a.m. (PT), followed by the women at 10 a.m. (PT).

SCAC Champions Lead the Way
The No. 19 nationally-ranked women's team is led by women's SCAC Runner of the Year and individual title winner, Alison Mueller-Hickler, who paced CC to win its fifth consecutive SCAC team title on Nov. 1.

Mueller-Hickler, a senior from Katy, Texas, won the race with a time of 22:11.18, 16 seconds ahead of runner-up and junior teammate Charlie Flint, who covered the 6K race in 22:27.45.

Senior Abby Goodfried finished third in 22:39.63 and freshman Sadie Honig in fourth (22:53.45), to capture the Newcomer of the Year award. Senior Brooktie Frogge placed fifth in 22:53.99 to close out the scoring for the Tigers.

For the men, defending SCAC champion and Runner of the Year, Will Shuflit, helped the Tigers secure their seventh consecutive title in nearly record setting time.

Shuflit, a junior from Park City, Utah, won his second consecutive individual title with a time of 24:50.38, the third-fastest time in SCAC Championship Meet history. He finished 23 seconds ahead of runner-up, senior Rabbit Barnes, who crossed the finish line with fellow senior Axel Klomaprens. Barnes posted a time of 25:13.75, while Klomparens clocked in at 25:13.76.

Sophomore Vincent Mangat placed fourth with a time of 25:17.78, followed by fellow sophomore Diego Escalante in sixth place in 25:20.07, rounding out the scoring for the Tigers.

Regional Review
Last year, the Tiger women placed second at the West Region meet, finishing behind team champion Claremont Mudd-Scripps by one point. Isabel Olson finished fourth individually, followed by Mueller-Hickler, Sydney Rankin, Goodfried and Flint. The women continued their success with a program-best sixth-place finish at the national meet.

CC has won three team regional titles, in 1996, '97 and '98.

On the men's side, CC finished fifth at the West Region meet, led by Shuflit, who finished fifth individually, earning all-region honors and a spot in the national meet. Klomparens, Mangat, Barnes and Huck Whittemore rounded out the scoring for the Tigers.

Up Next
Following the West Regional Meet, the Tigers will look to receive a bid for the Division III National Championship, which runs on Saturday, Nov. 22, in Spartanburg, S.C.

The winning team from the 10 regions around the country automatically qualifies for the NCAA Division III National Championship, while 22 other teams from around the country will be selected as at-large bids. The top seven individuals that are not on that team or other teams selected at-large also advance to the national meet. The team and individual selections will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 16.
