The magical run by the Colorado College volleyball team came to an end Thursday with a five-set loss to No. 24 Salisbury in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament in Cambridge, Mass.
Â
CC, which won the SCAC Tournament last week as the No. 5 seed, had its 10-match winning streak snapped and finishes the 2025 campaign with a 23-8 record after the 25-19, 16-25, 19-25, 25-19, 15-9, loss to the Sea Gulls.
Â
Camille Sherrill, the reigning AVCA Division III National Player of the Week and SCAC Tournament MVP, led the Tigers with 19 kills, followed by fellow all-SCAC first-teamers
Carolyn Dormady with 14 and
Brooke Brilliant with 12. SCAC Co-Setter of the Year
Camden Goodman and
Meghan Gannon collected team-highs of 51 assists and 22 digs, respectively.
Â
Salisbury jumped out to an early 10-4 lead and kept that advantage throughout the first set. The Tigers saved six set points, including a couple of kills from Dormady, to cut the Sea Gull lead to 24-22. However, Amanda Meschi collected her third kill of the set to clinch it.
Â
The Tigers roared back to take the second set behind four kills from Sherrill and three from Dormady. CC held the lead the entire set and Goodman produced a pair of aces to make it 24-16 before an attack error finished the set.
Â
The third set was even until the Tigers won five consecutive points to take a 18-15 lead and didn't trail by less than two the rest of the frame.
Â
Salisbury won five straight points and eight of nine to take an early 12-4 lead in the fourth set and rolled to force the fifth set.
Â
In that deciding set, Salisbury won the first three points and had a 7-2 lead after blocking four CC attempts in the first nine points.
Julia Reusch (10 kills) produced three kills to cut the lead to 8-6, but the Sea Gulls responded with five straight points to make it 13-6. The Tigers tried to rally but Salisbury clinched the match with yet another block.
Â
Salisbury's Gwen Eustace led all players with 25 kills, while Julie Altieri had 46 assists and Elizabeth Villegas a match-high 23 digs as the Sea Gulls improved to 29-6.
Â
"We are proud of our performance today," head coach
Sharon Dingman said. "It was a great experience and our returning players will use this in the future. I am so happy our seniors had this moment."
