Lisowsky, Stuart Lead Tigers Past 16th-Ranked Providence

Brandon Lisowsky scored twice and Riley Stuart notched the game-winning goal midway through the third period to lead Colorado College past No. 16 Providence College, 3-2, in a non-conference battle Friday night at Ed Robson Arena.

Kaidan Mbereko had 23 saves for the Tigers, who improved to 8-6-1 this season, while Providence fell to 6-6-2.

Colorado College had a great opportunity to take an early lead when Providence's John Mustard was whistled for a 5-minute major and game misconduct for contact to the head just 4:55 into the contest.

However, CC could not convert on its four shots during the power play.

Following coincidental roughing penalties to CC's Fisher Scott and PC's Logan Sawyer at the 11:05 mark of the opening frame, Alex Rybakov put the Friars on the board with a 4-on-4 tally just over one minute later.

The Tigers tied it up early in the second period when Lisowsky netted his second goal of the season at the 2:06 mark. A scrum in front of the net resulted in the puck squirting out to Lisowsky and he put home a shot from the slot into an open net.

The Friars capitalized on a CC penalty as Hudson Malinoski took a pass from Sawyer and fired a shot from the right circle that beat CC goalie Kaidan Mbereko.

Lisowsky evened it up once again with a power-play goal at the 1:27 mark of the third period. Owen Beckner found Gavin Lindberg along the goal line and he fed Lisowsky, who was wide open in the slot and scored his second of the game. It marks just the second time this season a Tigers has scored twice in a game, the other coming from Beckner in a 4-2 victory at Air Force.

Stuart then notched the first game-winning goal of his career with 8:50 remining in the contest. Philippe Blais-Savoie sent a shot towards the net from the right circle that Providence goalie Philip Svedeback (30 saves) stopped, but Stuart was right in front for the rebound and his third goal of the season.

The Tigers outshot Providence, 33-25, and each team scored once on the power play.

The teams will battle again on Saturday, Nov. 29, beginning at 6 p.m., at Robson Arena.
