Brandon Lisowsky scored and
Jackson Unger made 25 saves in his collegiate debut for Colorado College, but 16
th-ranked Providence salvaged a weekend split with a 2-1 victory over the Tigers Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena.
Hudson Malinoski scored both goals and Philip Svedeback had 37 saves for the Friars, who improved to 7-6-2 this season. The Tigers fell to 8-7-1 heading into a bye week.
Malinoski opened the scoring to give Providence a 1-0 lead just 5:51 into the contest. Kale McCallum found Logan Sawyer at left side of the net and Sawyer fed Malinoski across the crease and he beat Unger.
Lisowsky squared things up with his third goal of the weekend just 2:10 into the second period.
Connor Hvidston took a pass from
Ryan Koering, had the puck behind the net and found Lisowsky, who beat Svedeback from out front for his fourth of the season. Hvidston and Koering each collected his fourth assist of the campaign on the play.
The Friars took the lead once again with 3:11 remaining in the middle frame when Malinoski had a 2-on-1 but took it himself with a wrister from the right circle that beat Unger on his short side.
Unger was on the bench for the final 2:34 of the contest in favor of an extra skater, but the Tigers managed to get just one shot on target. CC outshot Providence, 38-27, and neither team converted on the power play.
The Tigers return to action in the NCHC on Friday, Dec. 12, at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
